ACTS Theatre Presents RENT
The iconic rock musical
ACTS Theatre is proud to present the iconic rock musical Rent, with performances running August 6 through August 16.
With music, lyrics, and book by Jonathan Larson, Rent is a powerful and moving story inspired by Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Bohème. The musical captures a year in the life of a group of young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York City’s Lower East Side during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis.
At its core, Rent tells the story of friendship, love, loss, and the search for meaning. The lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom, and Angel are deeply affected by the physical and emotional toll of HIV/AIDS. Meanwhile, Maureen channels her personal struggles into provocative performance art, while her partner Joanne questions the future of their relationship. Benny, once part of their bohemian circle, finds himself estranged after trading idealism for financial success. Through it all, aspiring filmmaker Mark serves as an observer, documenting the triumphs and hardships of this close-knit community as they navigate their dreams, relationships, and realities.
