Sep 04, 2026 04:18PM ● By Kelsey Swire

As Labor Day approaches, Acadian Ambulance is reminding everyone to prioritize safety while celebrating the long weekend. Whether traveling, enjoying the outdoors, or hosting backyard cookouts, a few simple precautions can ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday.

  • Road Safety: With increased traffic expected, drive safely and avoid distractions like texting.

  • Water Safety:

    • Designate an adult to supervise swimmers at all times.

    • Keep young children within arm’s reach in the pool.

    • Never consume alcohol while swimming or supervising swimmers.

  • Sun Protection:

    • Provide shaded areas for yourself and guests.

    • Wear hats and sunglasses for added protection.

    • Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after sun exposure.

  • Grilling Safety:

    • Thoroughly clean your grill before use to prevent injuries.

    • Keep flammable items away from the flame.

    • Avoid wearing loose clothing while grilling.

    • After use, ensure coals are completely extinguished or propane is turned off.

  • Alcohol Consumption:

    • Never drink and drive. Arrange for a designated driver or use a ridesharing service.

    • If hosting, ensure guests do not drink and drive.

    • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water in addition to other beverages.

    • Avoid drinking on an empty stomach.

  • Emergency Preparedness:

    • Don’t hesitate to call 911 in case of an emergency.
