BBSS SWLA Celebrates Big Brothers Big Sisters Month with "A Future Built on Mentorship"

Every September, Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations across the country celebrate Big Brothers Big Sisters Month, recognizing the transformative power of mentorship and the life-changing relationships that help young people thrive. This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana (BBBS of SWLA) is proud to launch its month-long campaign, "A Future Built on Mentorship."

Throughout September, BBBS of SWLA will spotlight the meaningful connections between mentors and youth across Southwest Louisiana while sharing stories that demonstrate how mentorship helps build confidence, expand opportunities, and create brighter futures. Through a dedicated social media campaign, the organization will provide followers with an inside look at its mission, the impact of one-to-one mentoring relationships, and the people who make that impact possible. 

With more than 20 million Big Brothers Big Sisters alumni worldwide, mentorship has shaped generations of young people and continues to strengthen communities every day. BBBS of SWLA believes that a strong future is built through caring relationships, support systems, and positive role models who help young people realize their full potential. 

"Mentorship is often found in the small, everyday moments that leave a lasting impact," said Jillian Cormier, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana. "Whether it's helping with homework, attending a school event, sharing a meal, or simply being there to listen, these moments help young people develop confidence and resilience. This month, we're celebrating those relationships and the incredible individuals who make them possible." 

As part of the campaign, BBBS of SWLA is inviting current and former Bigs, Littles, families, volunteers, and supporters to share their mentorship stories on social media throughout the month of September. Community members are encouraged to post photos, memories, testimonials, or reflections about the mentors who changed their lives using the hashtags #BBBSMonth, #BeBig, and #AFutureBuiltOnMentorship. 

These stories will help shine a spotlight on the lasting influence of mentorship and inspire others to get involved in creating positive change for local youth. 

In addition to celebrating existing matches, BBBS of SWLA hopes the campaign will encourage more adults to consider becoming mentors and help raise awareness of the ongoing need for volunteers throughout Southwest Louisiana.
