SOWELA Technical Community College will host its inaugural Fall Fun Fest sponsored by Lake Charles Toyota on Friday, November 6. The free, family-friendly event is open to the public and features live performances by Jarvis Jacob & The Gents and Barbe Show Choir. Guests can also enjoy food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, a car cruise-in, and the Kid Zone presented by the City of Lake Charles.
"At SOWELA, we believe college should be connected to the communities we serve," said Santana Leday, SOWELA Student Government Association President. "Fall Fun Fest gives our students an opportunity to engage with the community outside the classroom while welcoming families, alumni and residents to campus for an evening of entertainment, local vendors and family-friendly fun."
Barbe Show Choir will kick off the event at 6 p.m., followed by Jarvis Jacob & The Gents from 7 to 9 p.m. The festival stage will be located in front of SOWELA’s iconic 707 jet, and the Chennault Building will be open for guests to explore the College’s aviation fleet and learn about SOWELA’s widely recognized aviation maintenance program.
SOWELA is currently seeking food trucks, artisans, businesses and community vendors to participate in the event. A reserved vendor area will be available on the paved lot adjacent to the event stage, offering excellent visibility and access to festival attendees. Vendor registration is $35 and can be completed online at www.sowela.edu/fest.
For nine consecutive years, SOWELA has been named the No. 1 community college in Louisiana, according to Niche and WalletHub. SOWELA graduates rank first in the region and third statewide for highest median salaries, demonstrating a strong return on investment and reinforcing the College’s role as a key economic driver for the state.
