CBS announces DAUGHTERS OF 9/11, airing Friday, Sept. 11 (8:00-10:00 PM, CT) on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+.* Twenty-five years after the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil, Elizabeth Miller, Jessica Trant and FBI special agent Frank Pellegrino confront whether the man accused of masterminding the attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), will ever face justice.
Elizabeth Miller was 6 years old when her father Douglas Miller, a New York City firefighter, ran into the burning World Trade Center and never returned. Jessica Trant was 19 when her father, Daniel Trant, a Cantor Fitzgerald bond salesman, died on the 104th floor of the North Tower after calling his wife to say goodbye. DAUGHTERS OF 9/11 follows the unlikely friendship that developed between Elizabeth and Jessica, and their shared determination to find justice, despite their opposing views on what KSM’s fate should be 25 years later. Elizabeth and Jessica feel their drive for justice is not just for them, but for all families who lost loved ones and for the American people. There needs to be resolution.
Elizabeth and Jessica’s pursuit of justice led them to FBI special agent Frank Pellegrino, who hunted KSM all over the globe for more than a decade and is haunted by the possibility that capturing him sooner could have prevented 9/11.
Pellegrino finally sat face-to-face with KSM at Guantánamo, obtaining the first so-called “clean” confession. In this CBS special, viewers will, for the first time, hear the details of Pellegrino’s four-day interrogation, where KSM admits he is the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks.
Viewers hear KSM’s chilling confession in his own words: “I was responsible for the 9/11 operation from A to Z … I did it.”
Braiding the daughters’ deeply personal journeys with Pellegrino’s relentless pursuit of KSM, DAUGHTERS OF 9/11 takes a new generation inside the chaos and terror of that day while confronting the extraordinary question that has lingered for a quarter-century: How can the man who confessed to planning and executing the 9/11 terrorist attacks still not face justice?
Composer Brendan Ryan, who lost his newlywed bride in the World Trade Center on 9/11, created the moving score for DAUGHTERS OF 9/11. For Brendan it’s personal – a tribute to his wife. The soundtrack will be released simultaneously on Spotify.
DAUGHTERS OF 9/11 is produced by Wolf Entertainment with executive producers Dick Wolf and Tom Thayer; Blowback Productions with executive producer Daniel Voll, director Marc Levin, producers Daphne Pinkerson and Marc Levin, and consulting producer Terry McDermott, co-author, The Hunt for KSM; See it Now Studios with executive producers Susan Zirinsky and Terence Wrong, and supervising producers Aysu Saliba and Cara Tortora.
