Ranking recognizes excellence in training, student support and career pathways
SOWELA Technical Community College’s Practical Nursing program has been ranked second among Louisiana’s licensed practical nurse (LPN) programs in PracticalNursing.org’s 2026 Best LPN Programs rankings. The ranking places SOWELA among the state’s top nursing education providers and highlights the College’s commitment to preparing highly skilled healthcare professionals.
PracticalNursing.org considers several critical aspects of LPN education in selecting top programs, including accreditation, program quality and academic excellence, affordability and financial considerations, learning flexibility and admission and student success.
"Being ranked among Louisiana's top Practical Nursing programs demonstrates the impact of our student-centered approach and the quality of training our students receive," said SOWELA School of Nursing and Allied Health Dean Kristine Stout. "At SOWELA, we are committed to creating pathways to rewarding healthcare careers through hands-on learning, strong student support services, and meaningful clinical experiences. We are honored to help prepare the next generation of practical nurses who will serve communities throughout our region."
SOWELA’s Practical Nursing program prepares students to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The program consists of both classroom instruction and supervised clinical activities in accredited hospitals, nursing homes and other health care agencies. Practical Nursing is offered at all SOWELA locations in Lake Charles, Jennings, Leesville and Oakdale, La.
