SOWELA Morgan Smith Announces Short-term Training for Summer 2026

SOWELA Technical Community College's Office of Workforce Solutions will offer three short-term training options this Summer at the Morgan Smith site in Jennings, La. Classes include forklift, construction and NCCER training. All classes are open to the public.
Forklift Training: Students will learn about the latest OSHA standards, engineering principles of lift equipment, basic operation safety, and thorough inspection procedures. The course includes a hands-on component to ensure students can confidently and correctly operate a forklift. The cost for the one-day training is $150 and will be held on Tuesday, June 2, and Tuesday, July 7.
Introduction to Construction: The program provides a strong foundation for individuals interested in entering the industrial and construction workforce. It combines NCCER Core and OSHA 10 training to equip students with essential knowledge, skills, and safety awareness required for entry-level positions in the industrial field. The cost of the course is $870, a $1,240 discount. The course will be offered June 15-26.
NCCER Core: This general industry training provides entry-level workers with standard practices on recognition, avoidance, abatement and safety prevention. It also covers topics such as workers’ rights, employer responsibilities and OSHA standards. The cost is $770. The course will be offered June 29 – July 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
