Southwest Louisiana has a packed April ahead, with a monthlong series of community events tied to a 50-year resilience master plan for Calcasieu and Cameron parishes.
Just Imagine SWLA Month runs April 1 through April 30, kicking off Wednesday evening at Southlake Theater with a PechaKucha night hosted by the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana. The format is fast-paced, with eight local speakers, each presenting 20 slides at 20 seconds per slide, covering ideas and stories connected to the region's future.
Presenters include Trenton Mays, Avonlea Wainwright, Shonda Manuel, Jon Manns, Joe Burke, Heather Hohensee, Andrés Nava, and Jazmin Farraj, all representing the cultural mix that defines Southwest Louisiana.
The event is free but requires advance registration. It starts at 7 p.m., and no tickets will be available at the door.
Later in the month, This is Home Fest on April 18 at the Lake Charles lakefront will feature a "third space" demonstration on public gathering spaces, and Mid-City in Motion Day on April 25 (10 a.m. to noon behind Prien Lake Mall) will give residents a chance to weigh in on neighborhood plans tied to the Mid-City transformation.
