Rankings are Based on Cost & Financing, Education Outcomes and Career Outcomes
“The great work put forth by SOWELA faculty and staff continues to be recognized nationally,” said SOWELA Chancellor Dr. Neil Aspinwall. “The College is a very student-focused institution with a laser focus on its mission of workforce development. The continued success and recognition of the institution as a viable and quality option for higher education training has contributed greatly to the historical enrollment growth that SOWELA is currently experiencing. This national recognition has also strengthened and grown our business and industry partnerships, which is another key to our success. As I like to say, "This is not your granddaddy's old trade school."

SOWELA recently achieved its highest enrollment, with over 4,500 students enrolled in the Fall 2025 semester, a 20% year-over-year increase. In addition, the College exceeded its 2024/2025 completer goal by 539, which is 24 % over target.
These achievements can be attributed to several reasons, including a student-first focus, robust student support services, high-wage short-term training options and instructional programs tied directly to the region's workforce needs.
With four locations across Southwest Louisiana, SOWELA offers over 30 programs and 60+ industry-based credentials including Industrial Instrumentation, Machine Tool Technology, Business Administration, Drafting and Design Technology, Surgical Technology, Accounting Technology, HVAC and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training.
