The 2025 MTV “VMAs” aired LIVE coast-to-coast from New York’s UBS Arena on Sunday, Sept. 7, on the CBS Television Network for the first time ever. The award's show was simulcast on MTV and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. Entertainment icon and GRAMMY® and VMA Award-winner LL COOL J took the “VMAs” reins as solo host for the first time, after previously serving as co-emcee in 2022 with Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow.

Highlights from the show include:
- Lady Gaga led the pack with 12 nominations and took home Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Direction and Best Art Direction.
- The coveted Video of the Year award went to Ariana Grande.
- Fans had the opportunity to vote in 21 categories, with the chance to cast up to 10 votes per day while the voting period was open.
- VMA and Grammy winner and five-time Grammy host LL Cool J hosted the ceremony.
- Busta Rhymes was honored with the first ever Rock The Bells Visionary Award, while Mariah Carey earned the Video Vanguard Award. The show also featured a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who died in July at age 76.
