The Region 5 Emergency Preparedness Expo brought to you by Lundy LLP, was Saturday, April 26th at the Lake Charles Event Center. The expo was a collaborative effort of CBS Lake Charles, the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Office of Public Health, Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority, Lake Charles Memorial Health System and Acadian Ambulance. The day would not have been possible without our sponsors, a huge thank you goes out to Lundy LLP, Lake Charles Memorial Health Systems, West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital and Top Tier Tree Service.
The expo was held to help the residents of SWLA be fully prepared the next time disaster strikes. There were professionals from many different fields ready to chat with individuals and answer all their questions about topics such as weather events, medical needs, stress management, mental health during disaster, transportation, evacuations, disaster recovery and more!
We may all think we are prepared for the next emergency situation, but the expo taught us there are still important things to learn! There's info and resources out there available to us that we may not even know about.

It was a day for kids as well! The Sulphur Fire Department brought an inflatable fire training house and there were some pretty cool emergency vehicles to check out up close, including the Acadian Ambulance AMBUS, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Moc 1, a Houston River Fire Department Truck, a Lake Charles Fire Department Truck, CPSO Bearcat and the Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority medical mobile unit- Pete.
Here are some examples of questions the community could find answers to at the expo:
Do you qualify for a medical needs shelter?
Do you know how to evacuate with a disabled or electricity dependent family member?
Do you have a plan for filling medications during a disaster?
Do you have a plan for your pets?
Do you understand your insurance coverage?
Do you have a plan for recovery and clean up after a disaster?
