The upcoming regional spelling bee promises to be an exciting and highly anticipated event for students, parents, and teachers alike. For those who may not be familiar with the spelling bee format, the competition asks participants to spell words correctly, often of increasing difficulty, until a winner is declared.

The local spelling bee is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their spelling skills, build confidence, and develop a love for the English language.

Our SWLA Regional Spelling Bee is this Saturday March 25th at 1pm located at 2617 Westwood Rd, Westlake, LA 70669 (First Baptist Church Westlake).

CBS Lake Charles is honored to host the SWLA Regional Spelling Bee in which we have 19 local school level champions competing in the event.

We want to thank every teacher and faculty member at our participating schools and especially the parents raising such knowledgeable and competitive children.

A few things to know for the event -
  • We would like all parents, students, and school faculty members to be on location no later than Noon.
  • Dress is casual.
  • Our host Kelsey Swire will conduct quick interviews with the school champion, their parents, and a faculty member of each school (If in attendance) called “What’s The Buzz”.  These segments will consist of the student introducing themselves, the parents expressing how proud they are of their child, and the faculty member expressing how proud they are of their student.
  • Goodie bags for each school champion will be distributed prior to the event start and can be picked up at the registration desk in the main lobby.
  • All parents are to be seated on stage at 12:50pm where they will be given instructions from our host and staff to ensure smooth transitions between spellers.
  • Opening remarks will be given at 12:55pm by our host Kelsey Swire and other guests.
  • The SWLA CBS Lake Charles Regional Spelling Bee will start promptly at 1pm.
  • Once the student is eliminated, they will receive their school level champion trophy when they walk off stage and will be directed to sit with their family members.
  • The Bee will continue until we declare our Regional Bee winner!
We encourage all parents to bring their family members to help cheer on your child!

We look forward to seeing all of you this Saturday!
